A Tasmanian Walking Adventure
Set on a hilltop, 40 metres above the pounding of the sea and surrounded by National Park, Bay of Fires Lodge is the only building on 20 km of outstanding coastal wilderness.Enjoying views up and down the pristine white sandy beaches in an area of great significance to the Aboriginal community, a truly 'sus-tainable' building has been gently let into the landscape. Two long timber and glass pavilions allow maximum connection to the landscape with minimum impact on the environment: all building materials - Tasmanian hardwood and plantation pine - were lifted in by helicopter or hand carried to the site, and the lodge is autonomous in providing and managing its existence.
Here you will experience true communion with nature in accommodation that combines simplicity of design with comfort and warmth. In the magnificent living area with its large timber deck and open fire, you'll enjoy delicious meals prepared with the freshest local produce, accompanied by fine Tasmanian wines. Solar power provides lighting and hot showers while comfortable hotel beds (in private twin share bedrooms with views to the sea or the bush) add a touch of luxury at the end of each day's activities.
Cradle Mountain Huts & the Bay of Fires Walk are minimal impact, small scale walking operations based in Tasmania.
Cradle Mountain Huts is a six day/ five night guided walk along the Overland Track in the Tasmanian World Heritage Area of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Claire National Park. We offer private huts with hot showers, twin share bedrooms and delicious meals prepared by experienced guides. All guests need to carry are their clothing and personal items.
Bay of Fires Walk is a four day/three night guided walk in an enchanting coastal wilderness in the Mount William National Park. Guests stay at a private beach camp and the Bay of Fires Lodge. Guests are provided with a backpack and Gore-Tex jacket and all they need to carry is their clothing and personal items.
Daily departure between November and May depart and return to Launceston, via Pleasant Banks at Evandale. We guarantee departure for international guests. Each walk has a maximum of ten guests per departure and are accompanied by two experienced guides. All accommodation is in private, twin sharing rooms.
Both walks are dedicated to promoting natural & cultural conservation by educating & inspiring those people who take part in either walk. Leading examples of environmentally sustainable architecture, quality Tasmanian wines and fresh produce make Cradle Mountain Huts & Bay of Fires Walk comfortable, rewarding experiences. The major impetus behind both walks is a continued desire to provide equity of access to these magnificent Tasmanian landscapes. Minimal impact bushwalking practices are adhered to on both walks and all buildings are ecologically sustainable and autonomous in their management.
Cradle Mountain Huts has been operating successfully for 18 years and the Bay of Fires Walk for 6 years. As testament to the quality of the walks they are consistent winners of Tasmanian Tourism Award in Eco Tourism and have been entered in to the Tasmanian Tourism Award Hall of Fame. Our most recent award was the 2004 Tasmanian Tourism Eco-Tourism Award.
